Dr. Paul Edwin Finkenbinder (1921–2012), affectionately known throughout Latin America as Hermano Pablo, was a pioneering evangelist, missionary, and Christian broadcaster whose ministry reached millions across the Spanish-speaking world. Born in Puerto Rico to missionary parents, he developed a deep connection to Hispanic culture and a lifelong passion for sharing the Gospel. In 1942, he began his missionary journey alongside his wife, Linda, eventually settling in El Salvador, where they served for 21 years. His commitment to evangelism would establish one of the most influential Christian media ministries in Latin American history.
Recognizing the power of mass communication, Hermano Pablo launched a radio ministry in 1955 that eventually became Un Mensaje a la Conciencia (A Message to the Conscience). Through compelling four-minute messages combining everyday stories with biblical truth, his ministry expanded across radio, television, and newspapers. At its peak, the program was broadcast or published more than 5,000 times daily across 33 countries. His pioneering work earned numerous honors, including recognition from National Religious Broadcasters and awards for excellence in Christian film and broadcasting.
Beyond his remarkable media influence, Hermano Pablo dedicated his life to mentoring Christian communicators and strengthening evangelistic outreach throughout Latin America. He served in a leadership advisory role with COICOM and helped prepare the next generation of ministry leaders. In 1996, he entrusted the continued production of his broadcasts to his chosen successor, Carlos Rey Stewart, ensuring the ministry’s enduring mission. Following his passing in January 2012, his legacy continues through Hermano Pablo Ministries, bringing biblical encouragement and the hope of Jesus Christ to new generations.
